The latest trend in hand-knitted garments is using acrylic yarn. Using acrylic yarn means that you have to wash it regularly and you literally have to do it all over again! This makes it so hard to keep the pattern fresh and I personally dislike the idea of washing the fabric. The most important thing with acrylic yarn is that it only needs to be washed once in a month.

Aika kimono Free Knitting Pattern

This is a free knitting pattern for a lovely lace kimono. This kimono is designed with a simple lace pattern that is easy to work and looks great. You can use any lace or fingering weight yarn for this project, with a recommended gauge of 28 stitches over 4 inches, or 4.5 stitches to the inch. This is a very stretchy pattern. If you would like a more fitted garment, you can try knitting it with smaller needles and a tighter gauge. For a larger size, try using larger needles and a looser gauge.

Knit with a dk weight yarn and a needle size that gets gauge, these will make beautiful lightweight summer kimonos. The pattern is written for a child's size, but the pattern is easily adjustable by adding or subtracting the number of stitches cast on or the length of the kimono.
